Turns Out, I Just Needed a Smom T-shirt!

Why don't we have Smother shirts? Ya know, a tshirt just for stepmoms...that aren't weird, somewhat mother-ish, and generally comfy? This is the story of how the SMOM t-shirt was born.

It started before this past Mother's Day. I was feeling all the unwelcome odd pangs of being a stepmom, like wondering if anybody would remember me on the big "day" in May, or how to manage myself in the Sunday church service like when they would ask all the moms to "Please stand up". I always stand up, but there's usually a piece of me that still checks if I qualify. I do, and so do you. And this is where I realize I have a lot of pride left to overcome in my heart...but that's for a different post.

Anyways, I thought that maybe if I just had a t-shirt. One that clarified my role to the world (and myself), perhaps that would validate my goofy feelings on this really strange holiday. I looked around online and literally could NOT find what I was searching for. So, doing what any good American would do, I made my own!

When my shirt was made, and arrived in the mail, it was cute, cut right, didn't look awkward, and just said "SMOM". I wore that shirt to church on Mother's Day. Got a few questions..."What is Smom?" And I proudly said, "Stepmom!"

I haven't felt this secure about my Smothering ever! Turns out, I guess all I really needed was a t-shirt!
